See the Birds, Beasts, and Bay
We offer three basic types of tours. The most popular tour is the two hour Marine Wildlife Tour where we look for favorites such as Sea Otters and Puffins as well as visit the Gull Island seabird rookery. Birding Tours, which target some of the unique species in Kachemak Bay, are our specialty. Finally, we offer Ride Along Tours which are an inexpensive way to see the bay by riding along on an existing water taxi trip.
Hike to a
Glacier Lake
The Most Popular Hike in the Homer Area
The highlight of this self-guided, half day hike is reaching the shore of the iceberg filled lake with excellent views of the glacier. We provide round trip transportation from Homer Harbor to the trailheads.
Water Taxi
Your Gateway to Kachemak Bay
The core of our business is Water Taxi work. Essentially, a Water Taxi gets you and your stuff from point A to point B (and most likely back again). One service we provide is transport to Kachemak Bay State Park from Homer, Alaska. The park has numerous hiking trails, including the extremely popular Grewingk Glacier Lake trail, as well as camping, yurts, and public use cabins.

In addition to park access we can provide transport services anywhere between Bear Cove and Tutka Bay. We are an on demand charter service so we go when you want, where you want.

Bay Excursions provides birding and wildlife tours, plus water taxi service to the trail heads, cabins, and yurts in Kachemak Bay State Park. Not bound by set schedules or specific routes, we can take you where you need to go when you need to go.

Lifelong Alaskan Captains Karl Stoltzfus and Gareth Chesley jointly own and operate Bay Excursions which has been in business since 1994.
Vessels
Locally Sourced and Custom Built
M/V Torega
The Torega is a 15 passenger US Coast Gaurd inspected vessel based on a locally designed and built "K Bay 28" hull. Captain Karl performed a hull up restoration on the Torega in 2002. 16,000+ hours of operations and refinements later she is better than ever.
M/V Soleci
When Karl started Bay Excursions with the 6 passenger Soleci in 1994 it had already been the family boat since it was purchased new in the late 1970's. The Soleci was the first production prototype of the popular "K Bay 20" hull and just completed a full hull up restoration in 2018.
